I’m Alison Storm, and where I’m from there are more pigs than people.
That would be Iowa. I grew up in a town on the banks of the Missouri River that, since 1930, has perpetually had a population of about 80,000. Sioux City’s claims to fame: the place where the only member of the Lewis and Clark expedition died. (That would be Sergeant Charles Floyd.) Jerry Mathis was born here. (You know– Beaver Cleaver.) And our Congressman from when I was a kid was the Love Boat hunk Fred Grandy. (He played Gopher.) My childhood in Sioux City is probably also the reason why I have a massive fear of flying. (Flight 232. Look it up.)
After my low-key childhood, I flung myself in the world to fly or fail. I’ve done a bit of both and have enjoyed incredible experiences through my work in media and ministry. I love Chick-fil-A, encouraging children and living the debt-free life.

Crowdsourcing Kids
As a long-time board member for Set Free, a ministry bringing clean water and the Gospel to West Africa and India, I asked myself—how can I get my kindergartner to care about the water crisis?
And the answer came in the form of a stuffed elephant.
On World Water Day 2018, Crowdsourcing Kids launched. Fifty kids joined forces to sell 50 boxes of elephants handmade by young ladies rescued from slavery in India. Combining their efforts, they raised enough money to drill a well in Bangarumetta, India, providing clean water to 414 people in India’s lowest caste. We have now provided clean water to thousands in India thanks to the efforts of kids in America who are brave enough to believe they can change the world.

You can wander into debt, but you can’t wander out. That takes diligence: excellence over time. Since getting married in 2007, my husband and I have been on a journey to financial freedom. And over the last several years we’ve welcomed others to join us by facilitating Financial Peace University at our church. I consider myself an expert in saving money. Through DIY, coupons, thrift shopping, investing, side hustles, negotiating and many more tactics, we are now 100% debt free, including our mortgage. This has opened the door for me to work on a lifelong dream: fixing up a rundown property. I believe getting control of your finances is essential to living life to the fullest, which is why I enthusiastically share everything I know on my blog.
