After college I had dreams of being a news reporter, so I started my career in my hometown of Sioux City, Iowa. Even though I was living at home with my parents a part-time news salary does not go very far so I got a job at a bagel shop working early mornings. I actually made more money at the bagel shop.
After about a year I remember getting the courage together to ask for a raise. My boss called me into her office with the good news. “I talked to the higher-ups and I am proud to say I got you a seven cent raise!” she announced excitedly. “Seven percent?” I said with a small smile. That didn’t seem like much, but it was better than nothing. “No, seven CENTS,” she clarified. Wow. Now I could finally buy that candy bar I had my eye on.
As I moved up into another, larger television market the pay got better, but the bills got bigger. I was living out on my own and money was tight. All of these years of struggling to get by taught me to be creative with my money. I have sacrificed in some ways in order to achieve goals, experience adventure and live out my dreams. All of these years of living this way have taught me how to Do More with My Money. And now I want to share that knowledge with you. So welcome to DoMoreWithYourMoney.com where the goal is to Save, Give and Do more with your money.
