Pick Up Free Baby Food to Send to Haiti

This Formula Would Only Cost You $2

This Formula Would Only Cost You $2

My church is currently collecting items to send to Haiti for earthquake relief efforts. A member of my church has an aunt and uncle who run the Jean Cadet Restavek Foundation which has worked for years to end child slavery in Haiti. They are now setting up a clinic and working to keep the children safe after the earthquake destroyed so many buildings and lives. To aid this foundation’s efforts we are collecting items like blankets, non-perishable food, baby food and baby formula. The items can be dropped of at the Christian publishing house Ambassador International from now until February 5. The offices are located at 427 Wade Hampton Blvd. in Greenville. You can stop by Monday through Friday from 9-5 and Saturday from 10-2.

Today only if you become a fan of Babies R Us on Facebook, you’ll receive a free $5 e-gift card that can also be used in the store. The coupon will be sent to your email inbox after you sign up. It’s good until 2/20, but why not go ahead and use it now to pick up some free baby food or discounted formula to send to Haiti? According to what’s available online you’ll be able to score lots of free food or an 8-pack of formula for just $2 after you use your coupon. It won’t cost you much– or anything at all– and you’ll be helping a great cause!

I Actually Made Money Shopping for Charity??

I got a little surprise when I pulled out my charity receipts for September. Turns out I bought $59.59 worth of items which was down over recent months. (I think the reason for that was because I was busy planning a charity event so that took up a lot of my time.) But to my surprise I made $5.80 on those purchases. I guess that means I saved about 110% on my charity purchases for September. Yep, that’s right. I actually made money shopping for charity. Here’s a look at what I was able to purchase for local shelters in my community:

Two Tubes of Toothpaste

Two Sticks of Deodorant

Two Bottles of Shampoo

One Package of Floss Picks

One Bag of Coffee

One Bottle of Bleach

Two Bottles of Glass Cleaner

One Box of Pancake Mix

One Jar of Pickles

Four Toothbrushes

Support Twestival Local!

This weekend 133 cities around the world will be hold events for Twestival Local to raise money for local charities. I’ve been coordinating the Twestival in Greenville, South Carolina, the only one in our state! Our event is Thursday, September 10 from 5:30-7:30 at The Lazy Goat in downtown Greenville. We have nearly two dozen donated items for a silent auction, live tweeting, lots of giveaways and a budget friendly fashion show! Every penny raised will go straight to the Miracle Hill Boys’ Shelter, a charity chosen by a community vote back in August. The event is free, but a limited number of VIP tickets are still available. A local coffee shop, Liquid Highway is also hosting the Greenville Twestival After-Party from 7:30-10 where 10% of the proceeds go to Miracle Hill Boys’ Shelter. Still wondering what Twestival is? Were you Born in September?

I wish I was a September baby after reading about BorninSeptember.org. Last year, 800 people born in September gave up their birthday gifts raising $950,000 for Ethiopia. One of those was 32-year-old Scott Harrison, founder of Charity: Water. Over 96,000 people in 240 villages got clean water. This year they want to do even more. Watch this video:

I Saved 92% on Charity Donations for July

I tallied up the numbers for July and found that I donated $109.20 worth of items while only paying $8.72 out of pocket. That’s a 92% savings! Any time I see a great deal on something that I don’t need in my house, but think someone else could use, I pick it up and donate it to a local ministry. Here’s what I was able to donate for the month of July:

1 bag of potato chips

1 bottle of garlic salt

1 bottle of mustard

1 box of laundry detergent

2 packages of filler paper

2 composition books

2 packages of panty liners

52 pens

74 pencils

1 tube of toothpaste

1 toothbrush

1 binder

24 binder clips

1 bottle of mouthwash

1 box of cereal

2 bottles of Excedrin

1 dental floss

1 bag of cat food

1 bottle of BBQ sauce

You’ll notice a lot of school supplies on my list for July. All of those went to the Salvation Army where they fill backpacks for needy kids. The cat food went to the Greenville Humane Society and the rest was taken to Miracle Hill. I hope you’ll see that you don’t have to spend much money to help others!

Donate Your Car To Someone Who Needs It With Donate a Car 2 Charity

donateacar2charityI write a lot about donating groceries, school supplies and bathroom necessities on this blog, but what about trying to donate car? It can be a good option if you’re looking for an easy way to get rid of a vehicle while helping someone else out at the same time. Check out Donate A Car 2 Charity. It’s a great and hassle free way to give your car to someone who needs it. Here are a few benefits for using DonateaCar2Charity.com for getting rid of your unwanted car:

1. They’ll pick it up and often within 24 hours.

2. It’s a free service, including towing your car away if necessary.

3. They’ll evaluate your car so you know what kind of a tax deduction you can get.

4. They promise excellent service.

5. All proceeds benefit Christian charity Activated Ministries, an organization dedicated to helping those in need, sharing God’s Word with others through the distribution of Christian outreach materials and providing support to missionaries of the gospel.

To get started with Donate A Car 2 Charity all you need to do is fill out this online form, then someone will follow up with you shortly to set up arrangements for your car donation. You will receive a reference number so you can track the process online. When it comes to the tax benefits, if your car is worth more than $500, you’ll receive a receipt once your vehicle is sold, showing the amount that it was sold for. You can then write off that entire amount on your taxes. If your car is worth less than $500, then you can simply claim the value of your car up to $500. For more information on the tax benefits of donating a car to charity, check out this information from the IRS.

One of the amazing things about DonateaCar2Charity.com is that they will accept vehicles donations regardless of whether the car runs. The only exception to this would be cars that are worth less than the cost of towing them. But if you’ve got a car sitting in your garage or driveway that you want to get rid of quickly, why not give it to someone who will do something positive with it? Vehicle donations are a great way to do more with your money.

Shop For a Cause: Cute Gifts Help Guatamalan Orphanage

vespa cozyI just came across this cute Etsy shop this morning. I have a thing for Vespa’s since I spent about a week last summer riding one for charity. These Vespa cozies from Etsy shop Laurabucci are just $12 a piece, plus from now until the end of August a portion of your purchase goes to a great cause. Two dollars from each item sold in this online shop will go towards purchasing paint for Seeds of Love orphanage in Parramos, Guatemala. One gallon of paint is about $12.50 so each purchase will help significantly towards the goal of 40 gallons. You can also donate $2 without making a purchase by visiting laurabucci.com. I think this definitely is an example of doing more with your money.

Here at Do More With Your Money we are all about making your money go further so you can have a bigger impact, even when it comes to little purchases like Christmas cards. The concept behind Christmas cards is great, isn’t it? It’s a tradition with a simple purpose: keeping in touch. For many of our long-distance relationships it may be the only contact we make during the year. But your Christmas card can do more than touch base, share news or spread love. It can make a difference.
